Twice now I've gotten an invitation inside a YouGov survey. The premise was this: if I agreed, I would get a reminder in my email about a political event I should watch or attend (one was a Democratic debate, the other was a bipartisan virtual town hall with some of my state politicians) and shortly after the event, I would get a link to a survey about the event and get a large number of points (I'm sorry that I don't remember how much and didn't screencap, I should have at least known to do that the second time) for that post-event survey. It didn't say "maybe you will get an email for a second survey," or "chance to win an email for a second survey," it made it sound like if I agreed, getting this survey was a sure thing.
Both times I got the reminder email, both times I watched the event, which took hours, and both times I never got the follow-up survey invite. I checked my spam folder, believe me. I looked on YouGov itself for it. I haven't even bothered contacting support, because technically it was the survey itself that should have been credited, not spending hours watching the event, and because they never gave me the invite to the survey, therefore I can't claim I'm missing credit for a paid task. I'm sure there's something going on on the back end like just offering the invite to everyone, then silently DQing people whose demographics they have enough of or something without ever sending them a follow-up email, but stringing people along for hours of unpaid work and then simply ghosting them is really unacceptable. If only some people are going to get this survey invite and there is a risk you may not get it and therefore get no credit after the event, they need to SAY that up front, which they do not.
I know, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me." Well, I was fooled twice, and I won't be agreeing to any more of those. YouGov's other surveys have credited for me just fine, but these "watch a thing and do a survey about it after" events are scams. It says that you will earn money taking a survey after watching the event, but watching the event is UNPAID and the opportunity to earn money never shows up.
